Famous Freemasons
Famous Freemasons from around the world. MAKING GOOD MEN BETTER. Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world. Its members share a common goal of helping each other become better men. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, faith, country, and fraternity. Its roots go back centuries and its members are diverse: high profile leaders, physicians, construction workers, farmers...and maybe you.

1960s Masons / Freemasonry Film "In The Hearts Of Men"
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN - This 25 minute file made in the 1960s (probably 1965), IN THE HEARTS OF MEN was created by the Masons in support of the ideals of democracy. Hosted by Lowell Thomas, the famed journalist and a Master Mason, this movie celebrates famous Americans who were Masons. This Scottish Rite film was part of an effort in the 1960s to promote the work of the Supreme Council and produced and directed by journalist Richard Amberg. 500 copies of IN THE HEARTS OF MEN were produced, and it proved so popular a sequel film was created entitled SUMMER OF DECISION. The film cites many different men including George Washington. F.B.I. director J. Edgar Hoover, who was honored in 1965 with the Grand Cross of the Court of Honor, is also mentioned. Freemasonry consists of fraternal organizations that trace their origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons, which from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients. The degrees of freemasonry retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, Journeyman or fellow (now called Fellowcraft), and Master Mason. These are the degrees offered by Craft (or Blue Lodge) Freemasonry. Members of these organizations are known as Freemasons or Masons. There are additional degrees, which vary with locality and jurisdiction, and are usually administered by different bodies than the craft degrees. The basic, local organizational unit of Freemasonry is the Lodge. The Lodges are usually supervised and governed at the regional level (usually coterminous with either a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient. There is no international, world-wide Grand Lodge that supervises all of Freemasonry; each Grand Lodge is independent, and they do not necessarily recognize each other as being legitimate. Modern Freemasonry broadly consists of two main recognition groups. Regular Freemasonry insists that a volume of scripture is open in a working lodge, that every member profess belief in a Deity, that no women are admitted, and that the discussion of religion and politics are banned. Continental Freemasonry is now the general term for the "liberal" jurisdictions who have removed some, or all, of these restrictions.

The Four Chaplin's Video
The Four Chaplin's Video - 8 Minutes - The Four Chaplains, also referred to as the "Immortal Chaplains" or the "Dorchester Chaplains," were four World War II chaplains who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel as the troop ship SS Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943. The Dorchester was a civilian liner converted for military service in World War II as a War Shipping Administration troop transport. She was able to carry slightly more than 900 military passengers and crew. The ship left New York on January 23, 1943, in route to Greenland, carrying approximately 900 others, as part of a convoy of three ships escorted by Coast Guard Cutters Tampa, Escanaba, and Comanche. During the early morning hours of February 3 the vessel was torpedoed by the German submarine U-223 off Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. The chaplains helped the other soldiers board lifeboats and gave up their own life jackets when the supply ran out. The chaplains joined arms, said prayers, and sang hymns as they went down with the ship. The impact of the chaplain’s story was deep, with many memorials and coverage in the media. Each of the four chaplains was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. The chaplains were nominated for the Medal of Honor, but were found ineligible as they had not engaged in combat with the enemy. Instead, Congress created a medal for them, with the same weight and importance as the Medal of Honor. Freemasons look upon this selfless sacrifice with sacred honor that faith in God has find expression in love for our fellow man, even to the alternate personal sacrifices to which the things that unite us are far more fundamental than those that divide us. We can never hope to have absolute uniformity and belief. Men will always differ as long as men think. This difference need not lead to hatred or ill will or shedding of blood. Let us respect each other, enrich each other, and look for the best in each other. Let each man to his belief and faith, let him be true in it to his sacred book. Let the good and noble of all faiths unite for the relation of common ideals and aspirations for the Glory of God in the redemption of humanity and help men to be better. This Video was made by the church (First United Methodist) next to the Grand Rapids Masonic Center and has the stain glass window of the Four Chaplin's. Also, the Church pipe organ in the video is the sister pipe organ to the pipe organ on the fifth floor Amphitheater of the Grand Rapids Masonic Center. The Video Music is Samuel Barber's Adagio. Is one of the most recognizable pieces of classical music in the world. It has become America's semi-official music for mourning, used at Franklin Delano Roosevelt's funeral and after JFK's assassination. But somewhere along the way, it went from an anthem of sadness to one of joy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR-7c9-KUtM&feature=youtu.be
